Lecture : Violin bows from the renaissance to the classic period.
Based on research of iconographic sources as well as written references, this lecture will prove the world of violin bows to be a world of great variety. It will be explained that the methods of construction, the choice of materials and the adaptations of formes, are based on musical grounds. The bow is and girls necklaces has been the means of expression of a musical language in a certain place and time.
Nelly Poidevin is a well-known bow maker, based in Dinan. After being formed in Paris and Angers, she established a workshop in 1984. Since 1988, she specializes in the reconstruction of bows for ancient music. She has done a lot of research on alternative woods to pernambouc and has won several prizes.
